We facilitated a community town hall meeting on 8/18! There we had 3 panelists come and answer many of the questions and concerns expressed by local community members!

We hosted the August session of our monthly Tea-Tasting Fundraiser on 8/7 at the Chinatown Public Library! There we spoke in depth about the history of Chinese teas and how they have been used in medical, academic, and social settings.

We celebrated our Garden Fellows on 8/6 with an amazing graduation ceremony! Our Garden Fellows have been awesome and truly made these last 6 weeks so memorable!

We had virtual and in-person graduations for our Community Language students on 8/2 and 8/3!

Summer surveying is going amazingly!

We have knocked on countless doors and gathered tons of information from community members that could truly help us in formulating resources and assisting with housing inequities.

The first official day of Chicago’s We Run Chinatown Virtual 5K was Friday, 7/15! This is a collective fundraiser to unify and highlight the Chinatown Community and the goal is to run (or walk) 5K within 1 day (any day between July 15th - July 24th)!

Our Summer session of our Community Gardens program kicked off on Friday, 7/1! 6 of our high school Garden Fellows wrote what environmental concerns they are passionate about and began drawing plans on how they would want a perfect garden to look like.

Chicago’s annual Pride Parade took place on Sunday, 6/26 and we couldn’t be happier to have been a part of such joy!

We had an amazing dinner of Dim Sum with our Cantonese Community Language Program students on Saturday, 7/9!

The Chinese American Museum of Chicago (CAMOC) unveiled their brand new mural “Chinese Opera” on Wednesday, 6/22!

Yay! Our Community Language program is in full effect as of 6/6! This free program works to preserve the Cantonese language and build stronger community relations through language access.

The Spring session for middle schoolers in the Pop-Up Community Gardens program has come to an end and the high schoolers will also end this Saturday, 6/18. We had such an amazing time getting to know our students and growing with them in their knowledge of food security and environmental justice.

Our Black Heroes of Chinatown National Event on 6/9 was amazing! It was the very first time we ever held this award ceremony where we celebrated Black leaders, educators, and community members who live, work, and are HEROES in 4 of the biggest Chinatowns in the nation.

A couple of weeks ago we hosted our education meeting at the Chinatown Library to organize against CPS’s proposed $450,000 budget cut to our beloved Haines School!
