Overview

Our workshops teach participants hard and soft skills on many issues. They will provide mental, emotional, and physical tools to tackle issues such as anti-blackness, education, leadership, allyship, and census. These skills are transferable from daily life to workplace to community advocacy. They help to build strong leaders and strong communities.

Education

Overview

These workshops are intended to assist parents, community members, students, and teachers with exploring ideas on how to address educational issues within their community as well as how to create projects that would provided a permeant or long-term solution.

Goals

  • To support community members in creating and implementing projects to address education needs in the community
  • To equip youth, adults, and professionals with critical thinking skills for analyzing and solving problems in everyday life, the workplace, and community advocacy spaces

Anti-Blackness

Overview

We host multiple workshops throughout the Chicagoland area to combat anti-Blackness. We development each workshop to cater to each community, company, and/or nonprofit needs. (Note: All paid workshops go to our efforts to continue fighting anti-blackness in communities of color as well as predominately white areas and to our operations cost as a organization. )

Goals

  • To help youth, adults, and professionals to address their fear, misunderstanding, and assumptions about Black people
  • To equip people with practical tools to address their own anti-black behaviors and thoughts in everyday life
  • To assist people in healing with their trauma from incidents with Black people
  • To have people acknowledge their own anti-Blackness

Allyship

Overview

These workshops are created to assist allies in addressing their own privilege whether it be race, class, gender, sexuality, etc. In addition, to this help allies build a better understanding of what does it mean to be a “great ally”.

Goals

  • To teach people with power and privilege about their own privilege and power, and how it impacts people who are structurally marginalized
  • To provide skills, tools, and knowledge on how to actively support oppressed groups in a deep and non-performative way
  • To assist people in healing from White supremacy culture

Leadership

Overview

These workshops are given to our volunteers as well as members of our program. In these workshops we train our volunteers on how to become the best versions of themselves as well as the best leader they can be.

Goals

  • To strengthen and develop our volunteers’ and community members’ ability to empower others and build collective power in their personal life, workplace, and the community
  • To sharpen our volunteers’ and community members’ analysis of power dynamics
  • To teach soft and hard leadership skills such as conflict resolution, communication, and visioning

Census

We are a Complete Count Committee in partnership with the Federal Census Bureau. We have been spreading awareness around the importance of taking the Census to the Chinatown community. We have hosted several events around the census, one being hosted at one of the local senior citizen homes in the Chinatown Area. Approximately 60 seniors registered for our workshop.

  • To reach the most vulnerable members of the Chinatown community
  • To spread awareness of the Census
