CBA for 78

What this group is about

What is The 78?

The 78 is a multi-billion-dollar development by the company Related Midwest. This development will dramatically reshape land use, housing, transportation, and the surrounding built environment.

What is the CBA for 78?

The coalition CBA for 78 works to ensure that community comes first in the development of the 78. Itwas formed in response to long-standing concerns about lack of meaningful community engagement by Related Midwest, including their 2022 plan to develop the “Rivers 78” casino. Our main concerns are:

  • Lack of community involvement

  • Traffic Safety and Lack of Transportation Improvement

  • Housing and Land Use

Timeline

  • In June 2025, Related Midwest proposed building a $750 million soccer stadium on the 78 property, to be voted on by Chicago’s Planning Commission in September 2025.

  • In response, CBA for 78 coalition members invited Related Midwest to their own town hall in July 2025, to which Related Midwest did not come.

  • From June to August, CBA for 78 coalition members surveyed over 200 residents about their understanding of the 78, to which over 80% of respondents said they were not familiar with the 78.

  • CBA for 78 members also met directly with Related Midwest and Chicago Fire representatives, during which they were not able to get their concerns addressed.

  • Since then, the CBA for 78 has been getting more community support for their demands for a CBA.
